School/Work Coaching PDF Print E-mail

The CEDAR Clinic's educational and occupational coaching program provides individual support and advocacy for clients experiencing difficulty with their academic or career pursuits. The program is adaptable to the specific cognitive, social, and executive functioning deficits that hinder performance of the particular client, with an emphasis on generalizable skill acquisition and growth.

All clients meet with their coach for an initial assessment of school and work goals and to identify current barriers to success. Sessions often occur weekly and focus on building skills related to clients’ personal goals, in addition to improving skills such as time management, organization, problem solving, communication, and self-advocacy.

School coaching may help with:

  • Facilitating communication with middle/high school or college disability offices

  • Getting through a tough class

  • Finding an internship or a job

  • Applying to college

  • Developing individualized education plans

  • Learning new study skills
