Psychiatry Services

At CEDAR, our psychiatry team provides psychiatric consultation and medication/psychotherapy interventions. Our psychiatry team is led by Jessica Stern M.D., a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist and includes psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners.

Psychiatry consultations at CEDAR use a developmental lens that incorporates medical, psychotherapeutic, and family systems perspectives. These consultations are used to optimize diagnostic thinking and consider medication-based interventions. Our psychiatry staff are extensively trained in both medical and psychotherapeutic treatment approaches and clients can expect appointments and services to be delivered in a multi-modal approach.

Psychiatric consultations may be beneficial in understanding and diagnosing unique mental health symptoms. Medication can be helpful to reduce the burden of symptoms. Treatment targets could include sleep, focus, anxiety, mood, hallucinations or concentration. A number of medications and types of medications are available that may help these difficulties, included (but not limited to) anti-depressants, anti-anxiety medications, sleep aids, mood stabilizers and anti-psychotics. Our psychiatrists are available to assess and consult on medical and psychiatric issues, including whether a medication may or may not be helpful to you. They may review the potential benefits and risks of medications with you and your family and provide medication management as appropriate.

After completing a psychiatric consultation with our psychiatry team, clients may be able to participate in ongoing psychiatric services through CEDAR based on presenting needs. These services may include ongoing therapy as well as medication management.
